Tip of the day: Be Lucky

Chelmsford City hosts a valuable all-weather card where Third Time Lucky can gain due reward for some consistent efforts according to Ian Ogg.

Third Time Lucky can go close on his all-weather debut

It will be interesting to see Altior make his chase debut today for all that Nicky Henderson could provide him with a more exacting test without ever leaving the comfort of his own Seven Barrows Stables.

Better minds than mine have been exercised by the problems of small fields but it's a shame that we can't provide a contest such as Saturday's 14 runner beginners chase at Punchestown which included Grade One runner-up Coney Island, Pertemps winner Mall Dini and more besides.

The remainder of the card at Kempton offers some more competitive and no less intriguing contests including a Listed mares' hurdle where Jessber's Dream debuts for Paul Nicholls and the Ditcheat Thoroughbreds.

She should go well while I'll be keen to see how Andy Kelly fares on his second chase start and first run in 13 months. He looks on a fair mark even though you can't judge his rating solely on his 21 length defeat of Ar Mad; there are a number of other runners from the race to suggest the handicapper has been more than fair.

He hasn't been missed in the market though and rather than put him up at 3/1 I'd rather take an each-way chance on Third Time Lucky at 15/2 (7/1 general) on a valuable card at Chelmsford City.

Again, the handicapper has given last year's Cambridgeshire winner every chance of putting his head in front again and although it hasn't quite happened yet, he's run a series of solid races in top handicaps.

This is another one and he has more to prove than most from a wide draw on his all-weather debut but his sire gets plenty of winners on artificial surfaces with stablemate Alben Star one of his best.

It seems significant that Richard Fahey has kept Third Time Lucky on the go despite a relatively light campaign and the four-year-old is fancied to go a long way to justifying that decision this afternoon.
