Tip of the day: Brace yourself

The weather is taking a change towards 'bracing' and Ian Ogg hopes a horse of that name can shine at Musselburgh.

Bracing each-way in 2.30 Musselburgh

Shotofwine is the 11/8 favourite for the staying handicap hurdle at Musselburgh and deserves his position at the head of the market.

He ran out a ready winner at Market Rasen on his handicap debut and first run over a staying trip in a first time tongue tie, a performance which suggests that he should have sound claims of defying a 7lb rise in the weights.

Perhaps the combination of new factors will prove to be the making of the eight-year-old but his form had been modest prior to that and as jockey Brian Harding said post-race 'it was a moderate race and he jumped better than usual'.

The two that followed him home have upheld the form but his position at the head of the market does set up the race for an each-way bet and Bracing seems unlikely to be far away.

Nick Alexander's eight-year-old won over course and distance 12 months ago and is back down to the same mark. This venue clearly suits as she's hit the frame on two more of her five visits and finished fourth of 15 on her only other realistic opportunity.

She was a little way below her best on the first two runs of this season but not sufficiently so to suggest that she was regressive and she's taken to bounce back at her favourite venue on her first start following a short break and can be backed at a general 9/1 against Shotofwine who has to prove his last run was no flash in the pan.
