Tip of the day: Call the Tune
The combination of a drop in grade and a step up in trip could make the difference to Ian Ogg's tip of the day.
Jonjo O'Neill, trainer of Celtic Tune
The most interesting horse today, with due respect to the others, is Richard Fahey's debutante Touch Of Paradise.
Owned by Coolmore, the Frankel filly makes her debut in the opener at Newcastle and, like most of her sire's progeny, she's regally bred being out of Sir Henry Cecil's 2009 Oaks winner Ramruma. It would be exciting to think that she might be able to go some way to matching her parents' achievements on the track.
Whatever happens, she won't be racing for as long as Tisfreetdream and Working Title who are two remarkable teenagers – 16 and 15 – strutting their stuff at Hereford which is the sort of longevity which warms the cockles of most racing fans and the latter is favourite for the two mile handicap chase.
Today's selection runs against Tisfreetdream in the opening Weatherbys Bank Foreign Exchange Amateur Riders' Handicap Hurdle.
Celtic Tune, trained by Jonjo O'Neill and ridden by son Jonjo junior, is still a maiden after seven attempts but the French import didn't look devoid of ability in the spring in novice events won by useful performers.
This season started on a less encouraging note but his handicap debut at Warwick produced a little more encouragement with the Green Tune gelding staying on in the closing stages of the two mile five furlong contest.
Stepping up in trip and down in class may just eke out a little further progress with his promising young amateur's claim an added bonus and he's worth a small interest at 14/1.
