Tip of the day: Evergreen
A rank outsider at Catterick who is unbeaten over course and distance has caught the eye of Ian Ogg today.
Joe Fanning (right) has a good record aboard Rusty Rocket
Most eyes will be on Thistlecrack this afternoon and most will be hoping that the World Hurdle winner makes a smooth transition to chasing.
It doesn't always go according to plan though as connections of Value To Risk will testify but Dan Skelton's Grade Two winning hurdler is back for his fourth attempt over fences at Bangor following two falls and a 4/7 defeat at Uttoxeter at the start of the month.
It's tempting to take him on with Wishing And Hoping who could well complete a quickfire double for Alan King with Keep In Line but I think there's a case to be made for backing Rusty Rocket at Catterick, even though the initial 33s has been 'snapped up' at the time of writing.
The Dine And View At Catterick Races Handicap is the feature on the card and a 0-85 full of performers who either look handicapped to the hilt or have something to prove.
Rusty Rocket is certainly among the latter category but that's to be expected given his price. Remarkably he is two out of two over Catterick's seven furlongs although both of those runs came early in his 71 race career but the course clearly suits and the return of Joe Fanning in the saddle is a plus as the pair have only finished out of the money twice in seven attempts.
Trainer Paul Green hasn't sent out a winner since July but he doesn't have many runners and Rusty Rocket will relish the conditions on his first start since early September. The evergreen seven-year-old is no back number either as he's won as recently as May from a 5lb higher mark than he races off here but the big question mark is the trip.
The Majestic Missile gelding has raced almost exclusively over the minimum for the last three seasons with his last run over seven coming way back in September 2013 which would suggest that he has got faster with age (whereas I have found the opposite to be true) but it's a chance that I'm prepared to take given his price.
