Tip of the Day: He’s the one
The return to Lingfield can see He's No Saint get back on the winning trail today, according to our Matt Brocklebank.
David O'Meara: Can win with his only Lingfield runner this afternoon
Grey Mirage heads the betting for the quality seven-furlong handicap at Lingfield this afternoon but there are definitely reasons to take him on.
Primarily, he's endured a disappointing run of defeats since winning the All-Weather Mile Championships Conditions Stakes on Good Friday in 2015.
That's nine public outings in total and the majority of them have seen Marco Botti's charge perform well below what we came to expect of him a couple of seasons ago.
The drop in class could be seen as a major positive here, but he was beaten in the same grade a couple of starts ago and, more worryingly for his backers, the 2lb rise back up to a mark of 95 after he showed a bit more promise in third last time out looks harsh.
The run, his first since April, may well have been needed but he's seven now and faces some improving types here, the most interesting of which has to be front-runner He's No Saint.
A turf campaign didn't go well for David O'Meara's Irish recruit this year, finishing unplaced in all seven outings on grass during 2016, but it's been a different story on the all-weather and returning to Lingfield looks especially favourable.
His only previous visit to the track yielded an impressive win back in September and while that was a much weaker race than the one he's in today, he's since proven with two excellent efforts in defeat Chelmsford that he belongs in this sort of company.
He did amazingly well to finish second last time considering he went off so quickly in front and could be even harder to peg back around the much sharper bends of Lingfield.
In a field packed with hold-up performers, the selection's jockey Danny Tudhope may only have Pearl Spectre for company at the head of affairs and with all due respect to Phil McEntee's runner, he has a bit to prove at this level.
