Tip of the Day: Looking for a Fox
Andrea Atzeni's presence at Thirsk catches the eye but Ian Ogg heads to Listowel for the sportinglife tip of the day.
Swamp Fox can make a winning return to hurdling
With Royal Ascot flop Point Of View representing the in-form Roger Varian yard in a £20,000 handicap at Yarmouth, it's clearly significant that Andrea Atzeni heads to Thirsk instead.
While Imtiyaaz shouldn't be dismissed in the £11,500 Thirsk Racecourse Perfect For Outdoor Events Handicap, it would appear as though Atzeni has headed to Yorkshire to ride Sun Lover in the maiden at 5.00.
That's not really the sort of price that we can play with though and a more tempting proposition is Swamp Fox in the Liam Healy Memorial Lartigue Hurdle at Listowel.
This is as competitive a four-year-old handicap as you would expect to find for the money but there are solid reasons for believing that Swamp Fox may be sufficiently far ahead of the handicapper to land this prize as he comes here on the back of a career best run on the Flat having beaten Ted Veale.
Ted Veale's connections are represented by Tudor City who has to be feared with Ruby Walsh in the saddle and Tony Martin's horses flying but the son of Yeats hasn't proved easy to win with and returned a beaten favourite on the only other occasion that Walsh was in the saddle.
The heavy ground should prove no problem for the aptly named Swamp Fox who won his maiden on heavy and he has already proved that he can handle this sort of contest and his handicap mark having run well against older horses on his handicap bow in February.
