Tip of the Day: Making a Point

Ben Linfoot heads to Leicester for the racing tip of the day and he's backing a Group One-winning combination.

POINTEL – 4.50 Leicester

James Fanshawe and Freddie Tylicki combined for Group One success with Speedy Boarding at Chantilly on Sunday and the confident duo can strike again with Pointel at Leicester this afternoon.

The Le Havre colt was unraced as a two-year-old but he's progressed nicely at three, winning in classified stakes company at Nottingham in July on his first foray out of maidens, while he ran a cracker off 78 on his handicap debut at Kempton in August.

He stayed on well that day, proving his effectiveness over a mile and a half when pulling over three lengths clear of the field – bar the impressive winner Athlon.

David Lanigan's winner has run well twice off higher marks since, so that looks good form, and Pointel gets the chance to get back on track this afternoon following a disappointing run at Epsom last time.

However, that was in the Apprentices' Derby and he had a rotten trip under George Wood, racing wide throughout and he didn't look to take to the track at all.

He's back on a more conventional course today and a bit of cut in the ground looks ideal.

At around 6/1 he's the most appealing bet in the race, although there are a few interesting rivals for him to lay it down to.

Marcus Tregoning's Dance The Dream is one of those and the Sir Percy filly rates the main danger. She ran in a really good handicap at Ascot last time when trying to make all and this is a couple of rungs down the class ladder.

Her trainer won this race with Serena Grae a couple of years ago and it wouldn't be a major surprise were Dance The Dream able to get away off the front end here.

She looks set to run well, but Pointel looks just as progressive and he's taken to wear her down in the straight.
