Tip of the Day: Prime punt
Ben Linfoot heads to Exeter for the Tip of the Day, with one of Sophie Leech's well-fancied.
Killian Moore: Rides the selection at Exeter
WINSTON CHURCHILL has a fine record first time out and looks a good bet at around 6/1 in the Download The App At 188Bet Handicap (2.40) at Exeter this afternoon.
Sophie Leech’s 11-year-old has won on his seasonal reappearance for the last two seasons and this is his first run this campaign following a 332-day absence from the track.
The last time we saw him was at Wincanton last February where he was left clear three out, only for his stamina to give way over three miles and he was caught close home.
That shows he’s fairly handicapped today, though, as it came off just a 1lb higher mark and his last victory, at Chepstow first-time out last season, came off just 1lb lower.
The two-and-a-half mile trip combined with the soft ground look his optimum conditions and Killian Moore, who takes 3lb off, has ridden him to all three of his career victories.
Grand Gold is a danger off a 5lb lower mark than he raced off over hurdles last time, but that was his first run for almost three years and it only came nine days ago.
There’s no guarantee he’ll be able to back up that effort here, but he has been well backed into 100/30 favouritism this morning.
I’m not sure I’d want to be taking those sort of odds about a horse backing up so quickly following a long absence, even if he does look well handicapped, and at almost double the price Winston Churchill is a much more appealing bet with plenty in his favour.
