Tip of the Day: Rolling the dice
Ben Linfoot heads to Bangor for the Tip of the Day with one of Donald McCain's fancied to land a blow.
McCain: Can land another Bangor winner
ROLLING THUNDER responded well to first-time cheekpieces at Musselburgh last month and he can defy a 7lb rise in the weights in the Horseradish Hospitality chase at Bangor this afternoon.
Donald McCain's seven-year-old was pulled up on his previous two starts, but he jumped well on his way to a four-and-a-half length victory in the headgear in Scotland and there's no reason why he can't progress further now he's finished a race and got his head in front.
We already have an idea about the worth of his Musselburgh form as the third home that day, Mister Don, was just held by a head off the same mark at the same track in open handicap company on Friday.
That suggests a 7lb rise for Rolling Thunder is fair and with the McCain stable in good form, with three winners going in since Thursday, this horse can add to what is already a healthy win strike-rate for the yard at Bangor.
Cabragh is a danger judging by his win at the course last time, but he's up 9lb for that victory and he may have got away with the soft ground that day as connections think he prefers better going.
He might get away with it again, but giving 3lb to an unexposed improver like Rolling Thunder will be no easy task, and with Wayne Hutchinson taking over in the saddle it's McCain's charge that is preferred at prices around the 9/2 mark.
