Tip of the Day: Shore thing
A step back up in trip could see Shore Step return to form as Ian Ogg heads to Ffos Las for today's racing tip.
Shore Step (red sleeves) is weighted to go well
It's been a good week for jockeys returning from injury.
Fran Berry scored on his first ride back at Kempton while Finian O'Toole did the same at Sedgefield yesterday and Ryan Moore has an excellent chance of following suit in the opener at Newmarket.
Spatial is odds-on to build on the promise of her debut but the Fiilies' Mile entry does face a newcomer with similarly lofty aspirations in the form of Sobetsu and Charlie Appleby has enjoyed an exceptional year with his juveniles thus far.
Another youngster bound for bigger things is Vanity Queen who also holds a Fillies' Mile entry and if Luca Cumani's filly is to hold her own in that company then she should go close in the nursery from a mark of 78. Her current price of 7/4 does not seem unreasonable in a competitive race.
The claims of Shore Step in the 5.05 at Ffos Las are not as immediately obvious but Mick Channon's charge is worthy of an each-way interest at a double figure price.
He caught my eye on his penultimate start at Goodwood over five furlongs when denied running room and I'm prepared to forgive him a subsequent disappointing run over the same trip.
Those were his second and third races over the minimum in a 23 race career so today's step back up in distance is very much in his favour as is the handicapper's decision to drop him by 2lbs.
He's gone close from higher marks in more keenly contested races than this in the past so should be right in the mix if he can return to somewhere near his best.
