Tip of the Day: Spin class
Ben Linfoot heads to Nottingham for the sportinglife.com racing tip of the day with one of Richard Fahey's fancied.
Richard Fahey: Trains Spin Doctor
There's good racing at Nottingham today with a few interesting maidens intermingled with some difficult-to-crack handicaps – your typical autumn fare on the Flat. What is not to like?
The maidens are races to watch and learn from and I'm looking forward to the stallion restricted one at 3.00 – for 2YOs that were sired by a winner of a race of a mile and a quarter or over.
Hugo Palmer won this race last year with Mengli Khan and he has strong claims of winning it again with Hydroxide, while three progeny of Sea The Stars take their chance.
Roger Varian's Fujaira Bridge has potential after his second at Haydock, while John Gosden introduces Stradivarius – a half-brother to Persian Storm and Rembrandt Van Rijn – and Ralph Beckett, who has previous when it comes to introducing smart types in back end Nottingham maidens, unleashes Star Story for Qatar Racing. She's his only runner on the card.

The 32Red On The App Store Handicap at 4.00 is a devilishly tricky contest and I couldn't narrow it down to one. Bluff Crag is interesting in first-time blinkers as he didn't travel with any fluency under Richard Hughes in the Leger Legends race before running on nicely for fourth, while Richard Fahey's Billy Bond is better than the form he showed when sixth from a wide draw at Beverley last time.
However, I'd rather take a chance on Billy Bond's stablemate, SPIN DOCTOR, in the 32Red Casino Nursery at 2.30.
The Mayson filly has been disappointing since her debut success at this track in May, but she's been highly tried in the Albany Stakes and a tough York nursery since then and she showed a bit more last time out at Ayr.
She had a shout a furlong from home before weakening late on, suggesting that the drop back to five will suit, and she's dropped a further 3lb down the weights to a mark of 77 on the back of it.
I wouldn't blame the ground for her weak finish last time and the softer conditions today, combined with the drop back to five furlongs, her falling handicap mark and the return to Nottingham, could well see her deliver on the promise she showed at this track when winning on debut.
At odds around the 11-1 mark, she's worth chancing.
