Tip of the day: That man again

Ian Ogg follows a tried and tested formula as he heads to Pontefract for Monday's sportinglife.com racing tip of the day.

Paul Hanagan teams up with Richard Fahey to ride Yarmouk

Yarmouk in 2.30 Pontefract

In recent weeks I've flagged up Richard Fahey's record with his juveniles at Pontefract and he saddles another likely candidate today in the Racing UK Club Day 17th October Nursery.

The claims of Yarmouk are glaringly obvious as he finished off his race well at Hamilton to take second behind the progressive Mutahaady who was landing the middle leg of a hat-trick on that occasion.

This is an undeniably more competitive race but the money that came for Yarmouk on his debut that saw him sent off at 7/2 suggests that he had been showing the Fahey team plenty at home as that contest appeared to be a pretty warm maiden.

The winner may not have been out since but the runner-up is rated 90 and although the race falls apart a little after that, there have still been some promising performances albeit ones that have fallen short of expectations.

Yarmouk's next two performances were moderately encouraging with a fair fifth behind the Royal Lodge also ran but undeniably useful Kings Gift (form which is working out well) and a similar performance on the all-weather at Newcastle.

The move to handicap company and drop to six furlongs did bring about some improvement last time where he would have finished closer to the winner but for being denied racing room in the closing stages.

A one pound rise for that is reasonable and should be well within the scope of this colt whose best days are ahead of him. Of course that comment applies to the majority of this field but it will be disappointing if Yarmouk can't trouble the judge at the very least from the foot of the weights.
