Tip of the day: Wold beater
Ian Ogg has an each-way fancy for Ludlow's feature race this afternoon, the Tanners Champagne Handicap Chase.
Today's tip runs at Ludlow
I'd really rather like to be at Ludlow today.
There's something of interest from start to finish on a cracking card and the track has been rewarded with an excellent turn out for the feature Tanners Champagne Handicap, a 0-140 worth over £16,000 to the winner.
At the time of writing, Fox Appeal has been backed into favouritism and Emma Lavelle's grand old servant has shaped as though he could put his head in front on more than a handful of occasions in the last 12 months.
Perhaps he will but I've started to lose the faith and I'd be more interested in Calett Mad who impressed on his British debut and whose jockey Daryl Jacob wrote in his weekly sportinglife column 'I hope he's going to be a very nice horse in the future'.
He certainly made a nice start but I've been following King Of The Wolds for a while and so I'm going to stick to my guns. His reappearance suggested that a change of scenery could rekindle the flame but I was surprised to see Matt Sheppard drop him back to two miles last time.
He ran about as well as could have been expected at Doncaster until falling and should relish this return to a near three mile trip.
He's on a fair mark which is further reduced by the claim of leading conditional Sam Sheppard and there should be no problems with either track or ground. A general 16/1 and a top price of 18s, he's worth an each-way tickle in a cracking contest.
