Tizzard leads Potts tributes
Colin Tizzard described Ann Potts as "a wonderful lady" when paying tribute to the highly-successful National Hunt owner, who has died after a long illness.
Her and husband Alan have had their familiar red, green and yellow colours carried by a host of top-class horses, highlighted by this year's Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Sizing John, trained by Jessica Harrington.
The couple originally enjoyed great success through the Henry de Bromhead-trained Sizing Europe, among others, before splitting their horses up among several trainers in Ireland and sending Colin Tizzard a sizeable string in England.
Tizzard was sent 15 horses by the Potts last autumn and the partnership was soon cemented by a flurry of big-race wins.
Fox Norton triumphed in the Shloer Chase, the Melling Chase and the Punchestown Champion Chase, while Pingshou, Finian's Oscar and Sizing Codelco were other notable scorers.
"She had a long illness but she was a wonderful lady," Tizzard told Press Association Sport.
"I only recently met her at Cheltenham this year and she came to most of those meetings to see her horses and we had a great time at Punchestown.
"It was always an enjoyable day when Ann was there. She loved it and we all loved her company."
Harrington, who also trains this year's Coral Cup winner Supasundae for the Potts family, told the Irish Field: "Ann was a lovely person.
"She was very brave and took great pleasure from Sizing John's win in the Gold Cup."
