Trust on track for Nassau run

Queen's Trust (right): Finished second to Minding in Nassau Stakes 12 months ago.

Queen's Trust will try to go one better than 12 months ago in the Qatar Nassau Stakes at Goodwood.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained four-year-old is on target for a second shot at the Group One mile-and-a-quarter contest in which she finished second last year behind Minding.

After appearing to be in need of her run in a Group Two at York on her return in May, last year's Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf heroine looked to be close to her best with a fast-finishing fourth in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Chris Richardson, racing manager to owners Cheveley Park Stud, said: "She was slowly away from the stalls at Ascot which is one of her traits and she did the same last year.

"She got hemmed in when she tried to get a run and was flying at the finish. We definitely felt she could have been a bit closer.

"She will go for the Nassau now. You can never take things for granted, but it is the right race for her and she ran well when she finished second in it last year."

Richardson stressed ground conditions will dictate when talented filly Persuasive makes her first start of the campaign.

The John Gosden-trained four-year-old has not been seen since losing her unbeaten record in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown last September.

Richardson added: "Persuasive is absolutely fine. She takes time to come to herself and that is one of the reasons why you have not seen her yet, along with the easier ground we are waiting for.

"We were going to run her at Ascot but the ground was not suitable. When she won there last year, it was soft ground on the day.

"She has got entries in the Lennox and the Falmouth Stakes is another option, but she needs the rain to run there.

"When she ran so well in the Matron Stakes it had a bit of ease in the ground and I would say that is an obvious race to go for later on. Hopefully she can have an exciting autumn campaign."
