GEORGIA DOBIE, whose ride on Secret Interlude was the result of a Twitter poll by trainer Jamie Osborne, finished seventh on the filly in the closing apprentice handicap at Kempton on Wednesday.
Dobie had narrowly beaten Jacob Mitchell in a poll conducted on the site by Osborne, who revealed that the idea came to him when he was searching for a rider for Secret Interlude, who was running in a race restricted to jockeys with fewer than ten wins.
He said: "My apprentice Lucy Barry isn't eligible as she has ridden more than ten winners, and I haven't had anyone riding out lately who would be eligible."
Keeping with the theme, Osborne posted a picture on the site from the parade ring shortly before the race with owners Melbourne 10 Racing and Dobie, captioned: "The first jockey ever booked by Twitter poll."
Dobie and Secret Interlude broke smartly in the mile contest and still held a fair position turning into the straight, but they suffered interference at the over two furlongs out and were never dangerous afterwards.
The race was won by My Bubba and William Cox, who overhauled favourite Henry Grace in the final 100 yards.
