Uttoxeter gets green light

This afternoon's meeting at Uttoxeter is set to go ahead as scheduled after the course passed a morning inspection.

Uttoxeter has passed a morning inspection

Although the entire course has been covered by fleece since Wednesday, the prospect of freezing temperatures overnight on Friday prompted officials to announce a precautionary check for 7.30am.

Clerk of the course Charlie Moore was happy to give the meeting the green light following the inspection, although subsequent snowfall is a mild concern.

Moore said: "Ground temperatures dipped below freezing, but the air temperature stayed at zero and the track is raceable under the fleece.

"It has started snowing since we've given the meeting the go-ahead, which is a little bit of a worry. They're saying it could turn to sleet and rain through the course of the morning, so hopefully we'l be ok."
