The falling snow has delayed the work to remove the fleece covers which were put down on Wednesday to protect the entire track from freezing temperatures overnight.

Clerk of the course Charlie Moore said: "Temperatures went below freezing last night, ground temperature was -1C, but we were positive at 5.00am. We are actually at our coldest right now after the daybreak dip and there's snow coming down, but that was forecast.

"We wouldn't want this to carry on for two hours but right now we have no worries and expect the meeting to go ahead."

The seven-race card, which starts at 1.10pm, will take place on ground officially described as heavy.
