Verdon heads for Leger rematch
Ed Dunlop is targeting the Ladbrokes St Leger with Red Verdon who is among 25 acceptors for the final Classic of the season at Doncaster on Saturday September 10.
Idaho: Warm favourite for the Ladbrokes St Leger
The progressive three-year-old was second in the Group One Grand Prix de Paris on his latest start having finished sixth in the Investec Derby and fourth in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby on his two previous outings.
Dunlop said: "Red Verdon has had a good break since France. We decided to miss York and, all being well, the plan is to go to Doncaster. There is obviously a short-priced favourite [Idaho] who was very impressive at York. We will have to improve to beat him for sure but we will give it a go.
"I don't know about the step up in trip. His pedigree doesn't scream that he will stay but he has been finishing strongly over a mile and a half. He also relaxes well in his races and that will give him every chance of getting the trip."
Idaho is among 10 horses Aidan O'Brien has left in the Doncaster feature along with the likes of Voltigeur runner-up Housesofparliament, Queen's Vase hero Sword Fighter and Investec Oaks fourth Somehow.
John Gosden has won two three of the lat nine renewals of the Ladbrokes St Leger and has two leading fancies this time around with Muntahaa and Wings Of Desire.
Ladbrokes Director of Media, David Williams, said: "Idaho is the stand-out horse to have emerged from the St Leger trials.
"His Great Voltigeur win could scarcely have been more impressive and there is every chance he will go odds-on at some point between now and Ladbrokes St Leger Day."
There is a £50,000 supplementary entry stage for the race on Monday September 5th.
