Walker set to unleash latest Frankel runner
Son of Frankel runs at Kempton on Wednesday By Chris Hill 5:58PM 6 DEC 2016
ED WALKER sends out the latest Frankel debutant from his new base at Kingsdown Stables in Lambourn with Mikey Ready, a son of the ten-time Group 1 winner, entered for the first division of Kempton's mile maiden at 4.45pm on Wednesday.
Owned and bred by Reiko and Michael Baum, owners of Man O'War Farm in Kentucky, Mikey Ready is the first foal produced by the Dansili mare Reaching, who finished a nose second in a 7f Naas maiden on her third and final start for Aidan O'Brien.
The superbly bred seven-year-old mare is closely related to Peeping Fawn, crowned champion three-year-old filly in England and Ireland in 2007 following victories in the Irish Oaks, Nassau Stakes, Pretty Polly Stakes and Yorkshire Oaks, and half-sister to the Group 1-winning juvenile Thewayyouare.
Reaching was acquired by the Baum's for $675,000 at the 2013 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale while carrying Mikey Ready and is also a three-parts sister to the $1 million juvenile filly Crimson Rock who was successful on her only start this season for Ralph Beckett.
From the family of Kentucky Oaks heroines Blush With Pride and Rags To Riches and Belmont Stakes winner Jazil, Mikey Ready is a half-brother to a yearling filly by Tapit and a colt foal by Medaglia D'Oro, while Reaching was again covered this season by Medaglia D'Oro.
Mikey Ready's opponents include a number of unraced but smartly bred two-year-olds including the Cacique trio Footman, Beyond Recall and Opinionate, trained by Richard Hughes, Luca Cumani and Amanda Perrett respectively.
Beyond Recall is a Fittocks Stud homebred filly out of Forgotten Dreams, a twice-raced daughter of Olden Times who the Cumanis sold in foal to Dansili at last week's Tattersalls December Mare Sale for 200,000gns.
Luca Cumani has enjoyed some fantastic results with the family, none more so than in the summer of 1998 where Zomaradah – a half-sister to Forgotten Dreams and dam of triple Group 1 winner Dubawi and stakes winners Emirates Queen and Princess Nada – claimed the Italian Oaks just weeks before another close relative High-Rise won a second Epsom Derby for the Newmarket trainer.
Forgotten Dreams has been responsible for three winners to date with Beyond Recall being a half-sister to the 6f to 7f scorer and Listed Boadicea Stakes runner-up Remember, the 7f victor Roundsman and 1m2f winner Fiesole.
Khalid Abdullah's famous green, pink and white silks, carried to victory on 14 occasions by the great Frankel, will be on display on top of the two-year-old gelding Opinionate.
Bred by Abdullah's Millsec Limited, Opinionate is the fourth foal produced by the Sadler's Wells mare Comment, an unraced half-sister to the four-time Group/Grade 1 winner Beat Hollow and maiden winner Ancient Culture.
A daughter of the 1993 Irish Oaks heroine Wemyss Bight, Comment hails from the strong Juddmonte family that produced last year's Prix du Jockey Club winner and recent Ballylinch Stud recruit New Bay as well as European champions Kingman and Oasis Dream and Poule d'Essai des Pouliches victress Zenda.
