Wapping wager at Lingfield

Ben Linfoot heads to Lingfield for the tip of the day and he's relying on a George Baker mount to deliver the goods.

George Baker: Rides Wapping

Wapping – 3.10 Lingfield

David Lanigan's stable has been firing in the winners in recent weeks and WAPPING looks a good bet at the general 11/4 to extend the winning sequence for the yard in the Oilfield Offshore Underwriting Handicap at Lingfield (3.10) this afternoon.

The Smart Strike colt was off the track for 10 months before reappearing at Newbury on August 13, where he was, perhaps understandably, fresh and keen in the early stages following his absence.

However, despite pulling in the early stages he smoothly moved into contention under Pat Smullen in the straight, looking the likely winner a furlong out before he was outmuscled late on by two race-fit rivals.

He should come on plenty for that, with 10 furlongs and fast ground holding no fears for him judging by his reappearance effort.

Unfortunately he went up 4lb for finishing third, but at least the fourth, Vincent's Forever, who was beaten three lengths by Wapping in that race, has subsequently boosted the form by winning at Kempton.

George Baker takes the reins here and is likely to give him a typical hold-up ride, with Malmoosa and California Lad expected to ensure a good gallop.

Owned by Lord Lloyd-Webber, Wapping is related to plenty of smart types, including Grade One winner Gorella and Stars Over The Sea, who are his half-brothers. If he's anywhere near as talented as the likes of those two a mark of 82 considerably underestimates his potential.

In The City looks the danger, but he has to prove himself at the trip, unlike Wapping who can step up from his reappearance effort and land another prize for his in-form yard.
