Frankel's son Weekender to make Haydock debut
By Chris Hill 4:53PM 13 OCT 2016
HAYDOCK has proved a happy hunting ground for progeny of Frankel, with subsequent Group 3 winners Fair Eva and Frankuus commencing their careers with victories at the course.
On Friday, Khalid Abdullah's homebred colt Weekender bids to continue that run when making his debut for John Gosden in the first division of the mile maiden at 3.45pm.
The combination have already been responsible for the juvenile scorers Icespire, Monarchs Glen and Seven Heavens.
Weekender shares his page with some of Abdullah's most successful performers in recent years as he is the second foal out of the Empire Maker mare Very Good News, an unraced half-sister to exceptional broodmare Hasili.
The Listed-winning daughter of Kahyasi has produced seven stakes winners including five successful at the highest level in Banks Hill – dam of Prix Jean Romanet winner Romantica; Cacique, Champs Elysees, Heat Haze and Intercontinental.
Hasili is also the dam of the Group 2-winning miler Dansili who was placed on six occasions at Group/Grade 1 level before going on to prove a successful stallion for Juddmonte, siring 19 top level including Harbinger and Rail Link.
Fabre sends out Frankel filly at Maisons-Laffitte
Earlier in the day, Andre Fabre introduces another of dual world champion Frankel's offspring at Maisons-Laffitte with Overview due to carry Khalid Abdullah's green, pink and white silks in the fillies' mile maiden at 2.15pm local time (1.15pm GMT).
Overview is a half-sister to the three-time winner Orienteer, a son of Dansili who made a successful debut for Fabre at the same course over 1m2f in 2013.
From the family of the Juddmonte supremo's Prix du Moulin heroine All At Sea and Prix Jean Prat victor Mutual Trust, Overview is a daughter of 1m2f Listed Pretty Polly Stakes winner Take The Hint, a Montjeu half-sister to black-type scorers Stronghold and Convey.
Maisons-Laffitte debut for Wertheimer homebred Galipad
Fabre has selected Maisons-Laffitte's opening race as the starting point for a well-related son of Galileo with Galipad declared for the mile maiden for colts and geldings at 1.45pm local time (12.45pm GMT).
Owned and bred by the Wertheimer brothers, Galipad is out of the Halling mare Never Green, winner of the 2007 Listed Prix Occitanie and half-sister to five stakes winners including 2012 Arc heroine Solemia and Gold Dodger, granddam of this year's Poule d'Essai des Poulains and Sussex Stakes victor The Gurkha.
Never Green hails from the family of the top-class pair Authorized and Quijano. She has produced four previous winners with Galipad being a brother to 1m1f scorer Mathematicienne.
Half-sister to Carry On Katie in action at Redcar
The first race at Redcar sees Mark Johnston unveil the Raven's Pass filly Dal Riata in the mile maiden at 1.45pm.
Dal Riata was one of the cheaper purchases at Book 1 of last year's Tattersalls October Yearling Sale when bought by Stephen Hillen Bloodstock for 35,000gns.
That price belies her pedigree as she is a half-sister to the Fasliyev mare Carry On Katie, winner of the 2003 Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes and dam of the juvenile Group 3 runner-up Vocational.
Bred by the Dinka Raja Partnership out of Dinka Raja, a winning miler by Woodman, Dal Riata is a half-sister to six winners and more distantly is related to top-class US fillies Ariege, Kostroma and Nashoba's Key as well as French Group 1 victress Grise Mine.
Redcar introduction for half-sister to Awzaan
Johnston takes the wraps off another beautifully bred filly at 2.50pm when introducing Khamaary, a Shadwell homebred daughter of Tamayuz, in the 6f maiden.
The trainer has enjoyed a good rapport with the family ever since he was sent Khamaary's dam Nufoos after the daughter of Zafonic was purchased by Shadwell at the 2002 Tattersalls December Foal Sale for 100,000gns.
Nufoos went on to win the 7f Listed Eternal Stakes and since retiring to the paddocks has been responsible for five winners including the Alhaarth colt Awzaan, who claimed the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes and Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes over 6f in 2009, as well as Group 3 winner Muraaqaba and dual 7f Listed scorer Muteela, daughters of Dubawi and Dansili respectively.
