Wincanton meeting gets go-ahead

This afternoon's jumps meeting at Wincanton goes ahead after four inspections.

Wincanton: 80 per cent raceable at 8am.

Clerk of the course Barry Johnson announced an initial precautionary inspection at 8am, but the track was only "80 per cent raceable" as temperatures hovered just below freezing.

Further inspections was staged at 9.30am and 11am, yet the situation still remained inconclusive, however finally the meeting was given the green light at 11.40am.

Johnson said: "We're all good to go. The stewards have been on the track and they're happy.

"A couple of jockeys went out about half an hour ago as well and we're happy to give it a go."

The going is currently soft, with a maximum of 6C forecast during the day.

The first race is due off at 1.40pm.
