DUAL Group 1 winner Xtravagant will stand at Newhaven Park Stud in Australia for the 2017 breeding season.

The son of Pentire was trained by Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards to win the New Zealand 2,000 Guineas and the NRM Sprint at the highest level.

Bred by Rich Hill, Xtravagant is the fourth foal out of the unraced Zabeel mare Axiom and is a brother to Group 3 winner He's Remarkable.

He was bought by David Ellis at the 2014 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale for NZ$375,000 (£218,614/€254,681).

John Kelly of Newhaven Park Stud said: "He was a breathtaking racehorse with phenomenal speed. His eight-length win as a two-year-old was incredible, then his record in the Guineas and the Waikato Sprint against older horses were unbelievable. You don't often see horses win by eight and nine lengths in Group 1 company which he did.

"He's a superb looking individual with a truly international pedigree that is an outcross for Australia's Danehill line mares – we thought he was a wonderful opportunity that should not be missed. He will stand for a fee of A$15,000 (£9,052/€10,541)."

Ellis added: "He's a wonderful example of equine excellence, has a wonderful temperament and I will be sending mares of my own to Australia to mate with him."
