York warning for ‘tothestars
Connections of ante-post Betfred Ebor favourite Flymetothstars have warned he will only run provided the ground is not too quick.
The Sir Mark Prescott-trained four-year-old, who finished third last time out in the Northumberland Plate, is the general 8-1 market leader for the valuable mile and three-quarter contest at York on August 26.
If conditions are deemed unsuitable for the son of Sea The Stars at the Knavesmire, then his attentions could be turned instead to next month's Comer Group International Irish St Leger at the Curragh.
Tim Palin, racing manager for owners Middleham Park Racing, said: "Flymetothestars has had a little break since Newcastle and we are bringing him back steadily.
"He did one piece of work last week just to keep him topped up. We are taking it nice and steady with him.
"Sir Mark is convinced he wants good or slightly easier ground and if in the build up to York it is shaping up to be fast ground we will bypass it and wait for the autumn.
"He must have good ground or easier and we don't want the word 'firm' in the description. If Sir Mark says he needs juice in the ground, he needs juice in the ground.
"If he didn't run in the Ebor we would look at Listed and Group races on easier ground. He is in the Irish St Leger and that could be a possibility.
"He could also be one for the All-Weather Finals day. We could hang to him and keep him going through the winter. You would like to think he could pick up a win and you are in qualifier off his rating then go to the Marathon final."
